Is Fresha really free for salons?

The subscription is only one part of the cost. Platforms with little or no monthly fee earn on new-client commission and on card processing instead, so the honest comparison is the total cost of the software over a year, not the headline. Work out what a percentage on your new clients added up to last year and put that number next to a flat fee.

What is the catch with a flat fee instead of commission?

You pay in your quiet months too. A commission model costs nothing when nothing is booked, which is genuinely better if your year is very seasonal. A flat fee wins when you are busy and growing, because the number does not move.

Can I export my client list before I move?

You should, from any platform, before you cancel anything. Take contacts, appointment history and notes, keep the file yourself, and check that the new system imports all three rather than just names and phone numbers.

Do you charge per stylist?

Not inside a plan band. Each plan covers a range of stylists at a single price, so adding someone to your team does not change the invoice until you outgrow the band.
