A salon calendar is not a general purpose diary. The appointments are different lengths, they belong to specific people, some of them have a gap in the middle that can be sold to someone else, and the cost of getting it wrong is a stylist standing still for two hours. Hair salon scheduling software has to model all of that or it quietly loses you money.

Availability is calculated, not drawn
You never build a grid of open times by hand. You tell the system four things and it works out what is bookable, second by second, for every stylist.

The two features that protect the money
No-shows and late cancellations do more damage to a salon than almost anything else, and two mechanisms prevent most of them.
A deposit taken at the moment of booking, credited against the bill, which makes the appointment real. And an automatic reminder sequence: confirmation at booking, a reminder two days out, and a short note on the morning. The two-day reminder is the one that matters, because it arrives while there is still time to sell the slot to someone else.

Let clients reschedule themselves
Most reschedules are not a lost booking, they are an admin task that lands on you at the worst moment. Every confirmation and reminder carries a link that lets the client move themselves inside your notice window, which turns a phone call during a color service into a slot that quietly refills itself.

Yes. Availability is generated from the live calendar, so a slot disappears the moment it is taken.
Can two clients overlap during processing time?
Yes, that is the point of modelling processing gaps. A color with a development gap frees the stylist for a shorter service inside it.
